Support from QOTFC

The Queensland Occupational Therapy Fieldwork Collaborative (QOTFC) was formed in 2004 and comprises representatives from the Queensland universities providing occupational therapy (OT) training, occupational therapy professional bodies, and major employers. All of the stakeholders have the common goal of furthering fieldwork opportunities and experiences in the state of Queensland for the ultimate benefit of the health and wellbeing of the citizens of Queensland.

Occupational therapists provide services in a wide range of health, educational and community settings for people with a wide variety of medical and other conditions which affect their ability to live happy and productive lives. By enabling occupational therapy students to undertake their student placements in regional centres, we are giving them the opportunity to see the potential for work and life in such regional settings after graduation.

Therefore, the QOTFC considers training health professionals such as occupational therapists to work in Queensland health service organizations is vital.

Research indicates that positive student placement experiences are directly linked with later recruitment and retention. (Thomas, Y. et al 2007). Regional occupational therapists and occupational therapy managers have indicated an ongoing willingness to collaborate with key stakeholders to support occupational therapy student education.

Ensuring that therapy staff positions in regional centres are filled, is an important priority for the training bodies, the professional association, employers and registration board.

Your support of these clinical placements will contribute significantly to the provision of health services to the people of your community.
