Practice Placements in Mental Health Homepage
This section of the Clinical Educator's Resource Kit has been generated from a Project titled: Invigorating Occupational Therapy Student Placements in Mental Health (hereafter called the QOTFC - Mental Health Project). The project was funded by Queensland Health and managed by the Queensland Occupational Therapy Fieldwork Collaborative (QOTFC) with one of the aims being to increase the number of clinical placement opportunities for occupational therapy students in mental health practice.Involving occupational therapy students in mental health clinical placements can positively influence future recruitment of occupational therapists in the field of mental health. This module (CERK - Mental Health) is aimed at the occupational therapy practitioner who is considering the possibility of educating a student on placement. It contains information on the benefits of offering student professional practice placements; tools and resources to support placements; and, ideas on how to implement alternative models of placements within mental health facilities.
A range of reference documents, worksheets and resource templates are available as links in this module and provide valuable resources to support the clinical education of occupational therapy students. This information is readily transferable to support student practice placements in any facility.
For additional information you are referred to the full Clinical Educator's Resource Kit (CERK) on this website. It contains detailed and comprehensive information covering topics such as pre-placement considerations for student clinical education; setting up and sustaining positive student placements; approaches to clinical education; the feedback process and evaluation; and, working with students who are experiencing difficulty.
