Part Two - Tips for Clinical Placements in Mental Health
For Clinical Educators
The following tips are provided to assist you to consider, prepare for and participate in the provision of 'block' clinical placements for occupational therapy students in mental health settings.
This section of the Kit includes samples and examples of initiatives that have been developed within mental health services to assist in the provision of clinical placements. These resources have been included with the permission of the mental health occupational therapists and/or the organisation responsible for their development, and are available for you to use within your organisation as they are, or modify to suit your workplace. If you do choose to use any of the materials, please (as we have done here) acknowledge the source.
Don't forget that there are many other tips and resources available elsewhere in this Kit, that are applicable to the provision of clinical placements in general, not only mental health. In particular Part 2: Setting up and Maintenance of the Clinical Educator's Resource Kit provides extensive information on preparing for student placements. The following information is a 'snapshot' of some of the information presented there, and a sample of resources particularly developed for mental health.
Also, at any time you may like to contact you local University clinical education staff for further information and support.
